Quality Management Department

Introduction

Because our customers are the center of our focus and care, we work hard to improve quality and safety through providing a coordinated, objective and systematic approach to organization-wide (clinical and non clinical) performance improvement activities as well as coordinating the accreditation programs.

The systematic way of approaching performance activities were initiated somewhere in 2004 based on the Evidenced based practices. It came to its full shape when accreditation process with Canadian Accreditation Body was initiated (2007) and accredited at (2010) and since then SIH is always committed to improving its standards in a systematic way and holds quality and patient safety as its highest goal. SIH is reaccredited with Qmentum International Program on June 2013.

Patient Safety

Patient safety is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the reporting, analysis, and prevention of medical error that often leads to adverse healthcare events. SIH promotes all activities committed to improving patient safety and minimizing errors through the regular implementation of updated programs and always adopting evidence based treatment strategies.

Our Activities:

  • Build the concepts of Quality and Safety in our health care facility system.
  • Involve the patients in care plan and improving health care safety.
  • Improve communication and teamwork between health care providers.
  • Standardize policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
  • Establishing continuous training programmes on patient safety for different categories of health care providers.
  • Developing effective infection control programs.
  • Incident Reporting and Analysis: The most important consideration in improving patient safety is how best to prevent harm occurring to patients through learning from errors and incidents and advocating the culture of learning from mistakes.
  • Establish and monitor the indicators for patient safety.
  • Establishing procedures for patient complaints and surveys.
  • Adopt Canadian Accreditation Standards for patient safety through implementing the Required Organizational Practices (ROPs).
  • Conduct and participate in patient safety conferences and workshops.

Safety, Health and Environment

SAFETY is defined in many ways depending on individuals' perspective. In line with the organization's mission: "… provide high quality and safe comprehensive healthcare services in a caring and ethical environment…" we are developing and implementing strategies to have unified definition of SAFETY within the organization.

Safety is a very broad subject that could be divided in several sections depending on the focus of interest. In SIH, focus is TOTAL SAFETY for our customers – the patients, staff, visitors and the stakeholders. To support, maintain and promote we have our Safety Guiding Principles:

  • SIH will establish appropriate safety, health and environmental policies that comply with government regulations and international standards ensuring staff and contractors are trained and oriented.
  • Every staff member and contractor in the hospital's premises is expected to follow the policies and report any safety, health and environmental concerns to Safety Management to take appropriate actions.
  • We will conduct stringent audits and reviews on compliance with our policies and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare our organization for all hazards by developing comprehensive Emergency and Preparedness plans ensuring timely reviews, exercises and updates.
  • Protect the neighboring communities by minimizing environmental impact of the hospital's operations through proper waste management.
  • Support the world by respecting natural resources through energy conservation and implementing initiatives on waste reduction.
